This was my go-to place in Boston for a long time. After you do the Boyslton Street scene, Liberty Hotel, Ned Devines, yadda yadda, the Phoenix is a welcome change from those spots. You are basically guaranteed an awesome time dancing it up and 'air keyboarding' it up to a mix of 80s and modern day hits...it's a great place if you had a long week and just want to let loose. Great for people watching too. The 'closers' that come into the place at 1 am are hysterical. Usually big groups of girls on Sat which makes it nice for the single guys. There is a bench that people dance over you on, and it's a fun scene. In terms of dinner at the Phoenix, you shouldn't waste your money here. Go to Green Street, Rendezvous, that place on River Street (forget the name)...It's nothing special. Just end your night there, you won't be dissapointed!

My friend and I made a 7pm reservation last night. Got there on time, and had to wait 15 minutes b/c there were 2 groups having Christmas parties and the bouncer didn't have the names on the list. Even though we had reservations, we had to pay $10 each. Didn't realize it was a "club - club". We had the coconut shrimp for appetizers, a little on the hard side, but was pretty good. The bread was decent, accept the 2nd one I had tasted a little undone. The BBQ Orange Salmon was DELICIOUS! I had the passion martini, too strong and not cold enough. I drank less than 1/2. They turned up the music at 8pm, so by then we could hardly talk w/out yelling. The place started packing up quick, the dance floor was filling up and the DJ started to crank the music. Looks like the party was about to start! Except, I was with a client and she didn't feel like partying. For the 2 of us, total bill was $115+. A little pricey, the place was decorated so nicely, but I don't know about $115+. Come on, it's a club! If it wasn't for the Salmon, I would've been disappointed. Definitely a great place to party and I'll have to remember that. Great music too. A little run down for an "upscale" dinner place/club. You know what I mean? Next time, I'll be ready to dance here. I was a little ticked off that we had to pay $10 to get in and I spent that much on dinner!

I love the space, but what with the expensive cab rides there and the generally high cover, unless I know what DJ is playing or there is a special event going on, I tend to get buyer's remorse. Is it a good place to dance? Yes. Is it worth the $15 cover? (Picture me shrugging).
