Look, we all know what goes in guacamole. I won't even do a disservice and list the ingredients here. But what was supposed to be a special treat in "guacamole made fresh at the table" only served to remind me of how over-priced mexican restaurants can be. Being a self-proclaimed foodie, I have a decent sense of how much things *should* cost. The ingredients of a single-avocado guacamole do NOT add up to $10. I don't care if your grandmother raised the tomato plant herself and had an emotional fit when you plucked the ripe fruit off the vine and diced it in her face. Girlfriend got an avocado shrimp salad. Tasty but not as much as it was pricey. The fish tacos were tasty and more reasonablly priced. We went elsewhere for dessert, both of us were feeling more thrifty after our main course.

This review is for the Catacombs only. Two entrances and great decor!!! *To enter the Catacombs, the downstairs room of Temple NC, you can either enter from 55 Natoma under the HUGE highway sign saying "maximum speed is 55" OR walk around to the Howard Street side and use the entrance to the left of the main doors for the NC. Depends on how underground they are trying to make the party feel. *The Catacombs is all black with pillars crafted to look like ancient ruins and statues of stone deities lit up with small floodlights in each of the seating areas. After having traveled in Asia, it felt like a slice of Siem Riep and for me, that felt like a very good container for a party atmosphere. Hopefully, it makes people act nice to each other and raises the vibe. It sure did on 18Dec08 when I was there to see the CD release party for Catz'nDogz. Who, btw, brought a progressive house dance infusion to my whole body! The crowd that night looked like mostly Academy of Arters who were taking a break from finals. Casual attire of the hoody and cute sneaker show variety. I went alone and never felt lonely. Even some very sweet girls in cocktail dresses invited me to hang out with them. By the way that I was dressed (BurnerLite), that was a serious effort of cross pollination for them and I totally found that awesome. $7/House Gin and Tonics. I think this will be my new pricing litmus test. I will rate a G&T based on quality of the house gin, price, and maybe size of serving too...scale of 1-3. So it was 1+, cause the gin was marginal and it seemed like there wasn't a lot of it. I didn't experience the ventilation factor and I found the bathrooms large and pretty well maintained.

Early returns are in, Slide is smooth. Even if you have to take training lessons and arrange a spotter before they trust you to slide down their signature one-story corkscrew entrance slide. Other than that an elegant, big basement club next to Ruby Skye with lots of extras and attention to detail.  Branded as a historical speakeasy the theme is there but not overwhelming, none of that warmth and quirky vibe of some other mega-clubs.  Just a solid club with a big bar, lots of people you know, good times.  One of those places you shake so many hands it takes half an hour to walk to the bathroom and you leave with hug-fatigue. But four million dollars?  For that price you can carry me down the stairs.
