by Jennifer M. on So if you're on that infamous corner of E.Passyunk torn between Geno's and Pat's, pick Pat's. (My personal ranking: 1.Jim's 2.Tony Luke's 3.Pat's 4.Geno's) There should only be one reason why you ever eat a cheesesteak from Geno's, and that's if you never tried it before. You deserve a slap on the hand if you ever consider eating at Geno's again. CONS: 1. The meat is not chopped up 2. There is no seasoning on the meat what-so-ever 3. The whiz is not hot enough 4. The overall taste is bland 5. The cheesesteak, as if it can get any worse, loses more and more flavor as you eat it PRO: 1. The bread is slightly softer than Pat's 2. The cheesesteak is slightly warmer than Pat's A WARNING TO ALL FIRST TIMERS: This establishment is Pro-American. My boyfriend heard someone at the window say to another employee, "no no they're american" after we ordered our food. So i wouldn't advise anyone with a foreign accent coming to this establishment. Just being a different color is a flag to them.

Upstairs has a great lounge-y area you can drink and chat it up with friends. Downstairs is a bit cramped, but after a few drinks, you don't really mind getting close to people. However, for my bday last weekend, things were a mess. I know the lines usually get a bit long...but an hour an a half is ridic. Bouncer didn't let me in until after midnight, 5 minutes after my bday ended. forreals? uncool. When we finally get in, it wasn't even crowded. Put a couple of drinks down quickly and went downstairs. DJ was not rockin' that night. Someone must have told him because about half an hour later, he started playing some better stuff. By then it was too late, my friends and I were ready to leave and we didn't even stay in the lounge as long as we waited in line. I've had good times here, but I can't give it more than 3 stars because there were some serious uncoolness going on that night.
by Jesusa Fayson on By far one of the best live music venues in SF. I know live music, as I've been a live music aficionado in SF for many years. I've probably been to GAMH over 15 times. This place kicks ass and SF wouldn't quite be the same without it. Do yourself a favor and go to a live show at this place! Great sound, intimate smaller venue, and nice historic interior. Awesome venue and I have only positive things to say about this place. Another reason I love SF.
