3 stars in general, but +1 star for the gorgeous layout. Nan, Mel and I came here to dance. That night, there was some hip-hop guy giving a concert while all these girls were dancing around him in their underwear. It was pretty interesting. Clean bathrooms. Nice bathroom lady handing out towels and snacks. I picked up some twix to ward off my midnight munchies. You can valet your car for $15 right in front of the club, or go around the corner and park in a lot for $10. The best part of the evening was watching everyone file out when the place closed down (2am) and swarm the hot dog carts. The cart people were selling bacon-wrapped hot dogs, topped with onions and all the fixings. I took a bite from Mel's and it was pretty tasty. Nan said that those carts are going to be banned soon so get some good grub while they're still around. It hits the spot after dancing the night away.

I first went to Rise way back when I was a wee lil raver in silly t-shirts and big ridiculous pants. At the time it was $5-$8 to get in and primarily full of ravers. After awhile the price went up and the raver attendance waned. Years later I found myself returning to this members-only club after becoming involved in the night club scene. The price has risen, but the quality of DJs also has. There are some nights you will go and fall into gay boy land (guys piled on top of each other on the couches/walking around shirtless and touchy), other nights you'll run into everyone you were avoiding at whatever club you came from (guys with dragon ball-z hair/girls falling over drunk in their micro-mini or one particular night I got to witness a girl strip down to a full on leopard print bodysuit) . But the great thing is the way the place is set up. Downstairs is really chill, with couches lining the wall and a small dancefloor for whoever wants to get down to the slower beats. Upstairs is smoky, sweaty, full of lights, mirrors and dancing bodies. It's like two different worlds. My favorite place to dance is if you are facing the DJ on the 2nd floor, just off to the right. There is an AC vent directly over head, plus the couches aren't too far off to collapse into when your legs finally give out at 5am. My favorite place to sit and people watch if I'm just too tired to move is on the first floor in the corner couch with my boys. If you have a set place week to week, everyone knows where to come find you. The only thing I wish for Rise is that they had a seperate bathroom for those of us who sincerely just have to pee from a night of drinking. Having to wait and wait and wait while someone takes care of ingesting their choice of illegal narcotics in the bathroom always annoys me. The security also never believes you are actually peeing in the stalled bathrooms and always check in on you. The best time to go to Rise is in the winter, so that when you stumble out the door at 7am you are hit with the crisp cold air and the rising sun. You feel like you've been boarded up indoors for days, and the cold air cools all the sweat rolling down your back.
