BEWARE OPENING A BAR TAB!! these people have the nerve to put a hold of $150 to your debit/credit card IN ADDITION to the amount of your bar tab "in case" the charge doesnt go thru. are you kidding me?! this is absolutely ridiculous. their response is the bartender is supposed to tell you. granted the $150 gets "reinstated" but the hold is absolutely dumb. other than that had a sub par time at this place once again. not worth going to ever again. totally got strip searched on the way in and oh did i mention the cover charge? place has lost its luster, thats for sure.

My office decided to have our holiday party in Miami and picked Mansion as the place to go to after dinner. Being from Boston (where bars close at 2:00), we got there around 11:30 expecting the place to be packed. Fortunately for us it was not, and since we bought tickets in advance we didn't even have to wait in the small line that they were keeping just for appearances. The inside of Mansion is great. Plenty of room, great music, bars easy to find. Drinks were $15, but we were expecting that. For the first couple hours we had an awesome time dancing to the music and the girls in our group had fun walking through the VIP area in front of the stage. Up until this point, the night was perfect. However, I guess it was only a matter of time until some d-bag decided to harass one of the girls. This particular d-bag thought it would be cool to walk over to girl while she was sitting down and pretend to be looking for someone behind her while "accidentally" groping her. When she called him out on it, he decided to let all of us know that she needed to calm down because "he worked there." When one of the guys in our group tried to nudge him away from our little circle, he signaled over to one of the bouncers and whispered something in his ear. Two seconds later, my buddy is being escorted out of the club. The bouncer was nice enough to explain to us that the offending douchebag was the brother of the club's owner, so there really wasn't anything he could do about it. Whoever he was, his word was enough to get my friend kicked out. For almost 3 hours we had an great time at Mansion. Unfortunately our night was cut short by a tool who may or may not be related to the club's owner. Not enough to completely ruin the night, but enough to ensure that next time I'm down there I'll be checking out someplace else.

I think Saturday was the 2nd time I've been here... seeing how I a Bay Area Boomerang Child... I'm just getting back into the swing of things in the Bay. Things are a different when you're in your late 20s than your late teens though... and when you're not trying to be a cool asian hip-hop kid (which I don't think I was very successful at back then either). I've grown-up (relatively), and my musical taste has expanded, so Mighty was nice. Gotta say I dug the bus kicking it in front of the club though... The music was good, the crowd was chill, I can see this place getting a little too claustrophobic if they don't do a good job with crowd control (it was fine on Saturday when I went). And yes, the beers were fantastically chilled. Street Parking was a breeze... seeing how it's away from all the downtown $10-15 parking (which is still nothing compared to $30 parking in Hollywood -- another story for another time). I'd definitely come back and see a show or two here... and bump up the star level one more notch.
