by Will W. on Morimoto's sushi is artistic and memorable. It's adorned with rare fruits - like the Japanese mountain peach - which kind of looks like a giant raspberry with a taste between a raspberry and a peach. All the dishes were artistic. The changing lights inside the restaurant also make it interesting. I have to say my favorite thing about it is just the artistry and the thought that goes into each of a lot of the dishes... I love this place. Update went here in 2009 and just love the different tastes. Recommend the Carpaccio, both the whitefish and the wagyu beef - love the thin slicing and the oil (sesame+?) and yuzu soy. The oysters with their three sauces were delectable. The lemon butter sauce on the seafood toban yaki was memorable. Recommend the oh-toro despite the price tag. We also had uni, yellowtail tartare (like the caviar topping), coffee jelly.
by Reed Toyama on I saw Minus the Bear here about two months ago. Doors were at 8, and we arrived at about 10 since we weren't too enthused about the opening acts. Had zero problems getting in and we even managed to squeeze our way up to the front of the stage area without too much jostling. Kickass. The acoustics were great inside, and the reddish lighting and cool scaffolding/baroque-esque theme made it a really unique place to seea show. Parking is easy enough in the neighborhood, although it's a little dicey in the Tenderloin at night, so keep your wits about you when walking back to your car or other transportation. Next time I'll have to try the full on meal service.
