Same ol taboo 2. Went on amateur comedy night with my homegirl. The comedians were terrible and the food was overpriced. If anything, thought a black establishment would recognize a struggling economy. Anyhow, this is definitely the place for black cougars and ol playas to recapture their days from the late 80s , and 90s.

I was really excited about staying at the phoenix and had heard so much about it being a fun party hotel, or a "rock-and-roll" hotel as they call themselves in their ads. Unfortunately, I had a very surprisingly negative experience during my stay there 3 nights ago, on friday night. I now live in oregon but had lived in San Francisco for 10 years prior, and so had never needed to get a hotel in SF until my move to Oregon. I drove down with a couple of friends to see a concert, and met up with several friends who were also staying at the phoenix. After the concert, me and my friends went back to the hotel, only to find that there was a group of people waiting for us outside because they had heard we were in town and partying... this was a couple of minutes past midnight. On a friday night. The middle aged man behind the counter was freaking out , and was so incredibly rude to use once we got there that we checked out that night, basically paying $100 to store our bags there for 7 hours . Upon our arrival to the gate he started YELLING at us about how only registered guests are allowed onto the hotel premises after 11pm. He grabbed my friends arm, pulled her into the gate, and slammed the door on our friends outside who had driven down to SF to hang out with us. We payed $100 for a room at a hotel only to be completely disrespected and treated like children. I've never been yelled at by a stranger like that in my adult life. It was a hell of a way to greet guests coming into the hotel. My friend confronted him about his behavior and expressed that we understood this hotel to be a "rock and roll" hotel, and instead of apologizing or treating us like adults his response was to yell at us that "your friends cannot come inside, only registered guests after 11, and the occupancy in each room is 4 people, and if you're going to leave the hotel you have 5 minutes to get your things and go". I understand that he may have been worried we'd make too much noise, but to we that aggressively angry with paying customers is insane. It was a total bummer to be treated like that as a paying customer, or to be disrespected like that by a stranger. I would've stopped payment on my card if i hadn't paid in full in advance. So watch out. I was really surprised and disappointed by this encounter. Apparently the phoenix was bought out by some corporate company recently so it's not the same management anymore. in response to the comment from phoenix, the guy that was working that night specifically said that management had changed and therefore the hotel's "rock n roll" atmosphere had also changed. you might want to speak to your employees about how they interact with hotel guests in the future and the information they decide to give those guests.

Ok this place is kinda ghetto. I mean there are hot people, because that's how you gauge the place, but I really truly think this is a bridge and tunnel venue being that it is right off the freeway and bridge. When I told my friends I was going here they laughed and said "are you serious, I stopped going there ages ago". I went to dinner beforehand at Prana and seriously when Temple isn't totally packed and hot, it's nice. Like the decor upstairs. Downstairs has better music, but it was soo packed and soo hot that I thought I was going to throw up, and I seriously didn't feel good. It wasn't because I had too much to drink, it was just the heat. So, I went back upstairs and it was way better. More house music upstairs, but I spent the rest of the night in the front bar room by the window. Although it was kinda gross that someone puked on the carpet and it took them ages to clean that crap up, with the windows it was just far more breezy and airy and much much more comfortable. Because I ate at Prana, they gave me and my party a bunch of free Temple drink tickets. Hmmm. does anyone wanna buy them off from me?!
