by Nicolas H. on Very chill music (kinda upbeat new-age lounge), terrific atmosphere (all contemporary and modern...I love places with simple color, lines and great height), friendly staff (the girl behind the bar was both sweet, friendly AND super cute!), and what better place to get super quick internet and a cocktail. LOVING IT! It's never super busy here, so no worries about having to cram in. Seriiously, my new favorite "coffee shop" :D
by Dana Prochnow on In terms of what really matters about the Great American Music Hall, I would give it 5 stars. The acoustics are fantastic, the vaulted ceilings and dark wood carved walls add a spooky and specific sophistication to the venue, and every seat in the house is a good one. I recently saw Emily Haines and the Soft Skeleton there and was completely compelled by the sound quality, as well as her eerie vocals and fantastic instrumentation. Her indie post-modern melancholic sound-scape was the perfect first experience in the space, since the darkness and moodiness of the hall seemed to emphasize those traits in her music itself. My only criticism was that we were freaking frozen by the end of the night. It may have been the tragic melodies combined with the below 40 SF night air (was it air conditioned too, in mid-Jan?) but by the night's end, we felt like we had been sitting in a morgue.
