Every time I've been to Little Baobab, I've been the DD and still had fun. This is a HUGE compliment for any bar. Anyone knows that being sober, in a crowded room with lots of dumb beligerant 20-somethings is definitely not the set-up for a good night. Not to mention that the "club" is virtually a tiny room and an even smaller bar with virtually nowhere to sit. However, with its yummy and reasonably priced drinks, amazing musical choices, and chill vibe, Little Baobab single-handedly fixes all of those problems. (NOTE: There was one time when I went and the usual DJ must've been MIA because this DJ had NO IDEA how to blend beats together. In between every song, there was an awkward pause as each of us repositioned ourselves accordingly to the beat of the song.) Not to mention the crowd is, more often than not, laid back, relatively attractive, knows how to dance and not just grind their genitals on each other. Little Baobab is one of my favorite places to go out because it's chill, dirt cheap, there are no Forever 21 skeezies and popped-collared "brahs" rubbing up on each other, and the music is amazing. If you prefer bass-humping and girls who like to wear headbands as miniskirts, I would guess that this place is not for you.

Boo. I really wanted to like Vessel because I LOVE LOVE LOVE NYC's Cielo but overall I am sad to say my friends and I were not impressed with Vessel. The space was truly beautiful... large, plenty of room to walk around, nice lighting, smoking area, table & bottle service with a cool "tree" in the center. And thank you for the complimentary coat check. I went with 2 of my girlfriends and we didn't have any problems getting in, so I don't know if there's a cover? It's a lounge, though, so I doubt there is. Anyway, we arrived around 11PM & there was a good amount of people, but the music was zzzz (hip hop, which I like but this was mellow hip hop) and eventually the beats got a little faster, but I think it was already too late for us, we were getting sleeeeepy by the time the place was packed. Not terribly crazy about the crowd ( I was worried I was going to run into a few of my managers here which would've been so embarrassing cuz I was wearing a shabammy top... so I guess that means that the crowd wasn't diverse and had a bunch of guys with those hunter eyes darting back & forth. And BTW, thank you VERY much to the 2 yahoos who chipped their glass on my g-friend's glass & spilled drink on her leg, very smooth and you wonder why we weren't receptive? OK, I am digressing...) Bathroom wash areas were nice, but the shared bathroom stalls were nasty (as in pee all over the lid because as we all know boys can't seem to LIFT THE LID!). Eww. We left around 12:30 and went elsewhere.. I'll go back again, but maybe in a few months or if they reconsider their music.
