by Max J. on Dinner at ECCO was a interesting experience. When I arrived I was impressed right away by the large cheese display and open kitchen. Our hostess showed us to our seat and a friendly waiter appeared out of nowhere. ECCO is trying to push the dressy farmhouse country feel. Lots of exposed brick, and wood with white table clothes, and fine glassware. The menu gives you several options from pasta, to cheeses, meats, and fish. My table of 4 decided to start with a platter of cheeses, and cocktails. Our drinks arrived and one the drinks came incorrectly. No problem, we didn't even send it back it was only a small err. After that our food arrived, and was missing one of our sliced meats. The batting average wasn't good to start off the night. We tried several plates after that. One that was memorable was a saffron risotto. Very tasty, but anything with meatballs in it would be. Some of the pasta was hand made, its very impressive and not lost on me. I would say that my first experience at ECCO was a one off. I'll give ECCO 3 stars. The food was good, but a few mistakes with the service and the orders can kill a place like this. I have no doubt that going back they'll improve their score with better service. Go, enjoy your time at ECCO, there are still other options that would be better.
by Elisabeth Fiebig on I love this place. The complaints about it getting too busy might dissuade some, but I actually find the spot quite inviting early in the evening when I'm playing barfly. Like at the Miracle of Science two doors down, I am a regular here, and enjoy the challenge of distracting the staff from their prep work as the night slowly begins. Also, relatively few know that Msex offers a great lunch. I wish I were down more often for that, these days, but they serve a variety of sandwiches, soups, salads, and burgers that you don't see on the evening menu, which is really nibbles to be shared. Secrets to enjoying the best of Middlesex: order the Rum Punch and stop being one of those Mojito-slurping robots. It's outstanding, it's not on the menu, and I'm not usually a rum drinker anyhow. On the downside, avoid the Kobe beef burger -- not a value at the price, and not even exceptional. The day time lunch burgers, however, are amongst the best in town.
