So! Much! Fun! Came here last night with a couple of friends. One of said friends was having a birthday. We'd already eaten dinner, so this review is for the bar and the dancing only. The music was phenomenal--not the kind of thing I listen to on my own time, but so much fun to dance to. The drinks were delicious and cheap (though I took off a star because I have a HUGE hangover today, and the drink I got here was the only thing I had to drink all night). The crowd was eclectic and friendly, and even though the dance floor was packed and way too warm, I had more fun dancing than I have in a while. This doesn't factor into the score I'm giving this place, but it is a tip for women who want to dance here: There's a dude, who appeared to be a regular, who likes to expose himself on the dance floor. He was wearing a baseball cap so I couldn't see his face, but he's short with long hair and he exposed himself to my friend and then tried to get her to touch him. So, a word of advice: watch out for Wiener Man. What a creep. I should probably take off points for the management's not paying attention to stuff like this, but I still had a lot of fun; and to be fair, if I wanted them to do something about it I probably should've mentioned it. Also, I'm not one to let one perv ruin my entire night. Still, Wiener Man excepted, this place is a lot of fun.

Our good-bye party at El Rio last night gave me an emotional high that lasted for hours before quickly descending into a depressed realization that, dang, we're leaving San Francisco. But I couldn't have thought of a better place to have said my good-byes than at El Rio-- one the best lesbian-owned club/bar/community spaces in San Francisco. About 50 friends and family gathered for good music (courtesy of myself, played through the bar's own stereo system), great food (yummies prepared by Goood Frikkin Chicken) and Thursday night happy hour drinks ($2.50 for tap and well drinks). The atmosphere, as always, was relaxed and comfortable. The heater mushrooms warmed the decks. The chairs and tables a welcoming gathering spot for small groups of folks to sit around and chat. Dawn, the owner, was obliging and easy to work with. We reserved the spot without a hitch and everything went as planned. Jill, the bartender for the night, was helpful in every way, even giving me a free drink (it helped to numb the sadness in my poor heart-- *sniff, sniff*). It was a good night, a bittersweet, but good night. On top of being one of the best places to host a casual party, El Rio also hosts Mango, which happens every fourth Saturday of the month and is arguably the best lesbian events in the city (Butta @ The Oasis is its rival on the east bay). If you likes the wimmins, check out Mango. It's a t-party. And that means... free food! Free food and da gay. Can't get better than that
