by Darryl Culler on We got there at 9:30PM and didn't get in til almost 11PM, but they weren't letting anyone in. The problem was the kid who runs the door got there late and then realized there were no needles for the dj, so everyone had to wait an especially long time. By the time we got in the line was enormous, it was definitely a spectacle. Inside the staff is really chill, only the bouncers are dicks. The crowd was pretty cool, it seemed like a lot of the people that get in right away are friends of steve aoki and his friends - a bunch of chill hipster kids and not really a lot of hollywood type of people. LAX is tiny, it's smaller than cinespace so it didn't seem empty when we got in even though there were hardly any people inside. It has a really cool smoking patio too, it feels like you're inside in another room, but it just doesn't have a ceiling. They were selling $2 Harps, which was cool, and since we were one of the first ones in we bought a bunch of them.
by alex w. on I love this place. I used to come here more than once with an ex-girlfriend, and the memories linger. I also know it was one of the only bars in the area before the big building boom, and when SOHO was still for artists. I used to get a great steak dish, and the ex had a burger. It's like you've stepped into a movie set of a 'New York' place. Yeah, it's a dive-hole, but that's part of the charm. I feel like there's a good enough mix of the locals, tourists, outsiders etc. to give it up a thumbs-up. Good if you're driving home from upstate, on the West Side, and want to get dinner before making it back to Brooklyn.
