I heard mixed reviews about this place. I haven't gone "clubbing" in sooo long, and I now remember why I stopped going. The club is so typical, the atmosphere, the desperate boys and attention starved girls. The most entertaining thing the club has to offer other than the variety of the people that frequent these clubs, is the bollywood room. I have to say it was a riot watching people dance to the soundtrack of slumdog millionaire. The drinks are expensive, but after the super affordable 5 dollar cocktails in San Diego..Maybe I just forgot that paying 10 for a drink is normal for the Seattle scene.

Webster Hall is really what you make it. After a few years of patronage, I have come to like Webster Hall for what I see it as: a venue that consistently books my favorite electro artists and DJ's. Recent acts like Classixx, Holy Ghost!, Vitalic, and even big name's like Justice and MSTRKRFT have all been nothing less than spectacular. There is always an adequate light show and the sound quality is always good as long as you know where to stand. For those that keep lamenting WH has crappy sound, it's most likely they keep finding themselves on the bass heavy sides of the stage or around the bar in the back where sound quality gets muddy. Easy solution: move your self conscious ass to the front center! If you live in NYC then you should have no problem being aggressive. Webster Hall is at its best when its either an up-and-coming DJ or when someone with a smaller fan base is performing in the Grand Ballroom. These smaller shows have an intimate feel to them that I have yet to find at venues like Love or Sullivan Room since the floor is so much larger at WH. Being able to set up shop with a few friends where you can dance comfortably in an acoustic sweet spot (about 10 people deep from the center of the stage) is pretty much non-existent at venues across the city. I will agree that big name acts can (and do) attract large hoards of teenagers (and shitty fans in general). However, if you can DEAL with them you'll realize that your DJ is killing it on the decks while everyone around you is doing their best interpretation of dancing. Crowd energy is one thing that Webster Hall never lacks. Look, everyone trashes on Webster for a whole host of reasons. And yes, almost all of them are valid, especially when it comes to how they run coat check, security, and the front door. But this isn't a review about how Webster operates. Its about what Webster has to offer - world class line-ups of electronic dj's which have given me some of the most memorable Friday nights I can remember.

$20 cover. Eep. For what? The sticky tourist trap location I'm sure. The go go dancer platform in the front room is a bit tacky. The back area is one hot mess owing to the more popular hip hop & top 40. There is a long bottleneck between the two rooms... it's a very slim corridoor filled with people: 1. vying to get the bartender's attentions 2. waiting in line to go to the co-ed bathrooms. 3. being escorted out by their friends, each arm hooked to a neck on either side Come here on a weeknight to better appreciate the sleek modern decor, better service, decent music, without the let's get trashed and get kicked out crowd. Too bad it can't be like this on the weekends... I wouldn't mind so much the number of people packed here on a busy night, just the type. These are my observations and what I would tell you if you asked me what to expect.
