by Otha Nightlinger on Definitely the strictest entrance process I have ever encountered at a club. The line wasn't long but yet we waited as the people before us were searched and scanned. While we waited, we were given what I thought were business cards but were in fact "get out of jail free" cards. The cards were asking us to report any drug activity one might see going on inside. Already, I was very confused as to what type of place we were about to enter. I had definitely never encountered this out here in LA, nor did the couple behind us from Australia. But then again "I'm on vacation and I wanna dance!" so in I went. The club is small, very very small. But very nice I have to admit. Music is all house/dance music, and crowd is very ummm... Anglo. Despite all of this though, I managed to have a great time all except for the many times the dj would loop a part of a song and then NOT play it. Dam near wanted to kill him for being such a music tease...
by Eden L. on Oh ma god! Oh ma god! Everywhere you look is something new and interesting. I went on Wachovia Wednesday - the free admission day on the 3rd Wed. of the month. I got in line at 9:05, and was in the museum 5 minutes after the doors opened at 9:30. So much to see. So much to delight the senses. Go! you will enjoy it. :) This is a museum designed to engage, enlighten and educate and it's done with as much attention to presentation as to education. Permagrin!
by Fred Erisman on Tangerine is Starr's take on Mediterranean food. Let me start by saying that most like this play much better than I do. Many would give it 5 stars. Like most Starr restaurants Tangerine has a fun list of cocktails to choose from. Tangerine's drink menu has mainly upscale martinis, which were very good. Dinner was a mixed plate with the chef fully utilizing mediterranean flavors in items like chickpea crepes, pistacchio/raisin bread, shrimp afrique, moroccan shrimp, and red ssnapper with red pepper sauce. These flavors carried over to dessert as well in a pistacchio ice cream. It's not that Tangerine wasn't good, but it was just a little too unidimensional for me. I didn't think the flavors meshed as well together as at some of the other Starr restaurants.
