Scene: futuristic decor, king size beds, 5 girls, and a man in a suit dancing awkwardly with a girl on the dance floor. Few people in the bar area. This place makes me giggle with all the beds. As we sat on the bed waiting for the dance floor to get more crowded, we saw the girls on the other bed having a slumber party, Duvet's waitresses (or I'm not sure what they were) in sexy black dresses standing to the wall mindlessly (almost like they were going to put on a performance, but never did), and few people coming in. After a good wait and not seeing a single new addition to the dance floor, we decided to stop wasting our time and up we left. My two stars are for the potential this place could have.

A place like this is going to be controversial in SF, but I've never been shy of a little controversy so here goes: The lounge is beautiful, the space itself gets five sexy stars. The wavy walls, conspicuous tree, and sunset orange lighting makes it feel like an ocean-side bar, evocative of a hot South Beach club. My good friend was here from NYC and I wanted to go all out for him, so I booked a table on Friday. Not cheap, but what I expected. Our waitress was great and the staff kept our table clean and stocked. The crowd was sceney, but you've got to know that's what you're getting into when you come. All my guests had a blast (even those with hangups about coming) so for me, the expense was well worth the memories. That said, Vessel lost a star for two hiccups: First the bouncers were too "tough" at the door. One door guy didn't realize I was coming in for a table and gave me a hard time when I told him to let my unescorted friend in (who was parking the car). He eventually backed off, but I was momentarily offended. Also the bussers were too aggressive in taking away unfinished drinks. Some staff tuning/training is clearly needed, but given that everyone in my crew had a great time I'm happy.
