After a $25 cover, you then get to sweat your ass off and look at the super ugly crowd that makes you wonder why you even went here in the first place. If I go to hell, it'll probably resemble Cielo.

Martuni's is a classy place that absolutely does not take itself seriously, as measured by the very helpful but sassy-mouthed wait-staff. There is a lot of humor and campiness around - propelled by the piano bar in the back - all of which make this outer-Castro bar a very hetero-friendly place to chill with friends or a date. But I warn you - the drinks are strong, and it's understandable why those used to the stinginess of other swanky SF bars might wonder why their heads are spinning after one drink. Also, I'm normally a clear-as-water martini kind of guy, but here I am totally comfortable in my masculinity to be seen sipping the most flamboyant of libations. However, if what you want is a simple, unadulterated drink, they do those really well, too. Here's what I've had or tasted: Raspberry lemon drop: my favorite - sweet, w/real raspberries Watermelon martini: don't be misled by it's jolly rancher-esque flavor - it'll knock you on your ass fast (w/real watermelon slice). Orange creamcicle: tasty Caramel apple: tasty Grey Goose gibson: simple, solid, well-done As for the service, I've often had Skip, the owner, himself find a table for me at the height of a packed room, take our order, and be back at the table with our drinks within five minutes, sometimes less. Skip is super fun to talk to and does a superior job waiting his own tables. Have fun!
