by Leslie D. on I went to the Frying Pan on my very first half-day Friday at work for the summer with a few coworkers. The location is what really sells this place... You are practically at the pier next to Chelsea Piers on a floating barge! On the beautiful *sarcasm* Hudson River! Poor river... So much litter. Oh well. On site of the FP there is a bar and a cooking area... but you order your food at the bar then have to wait for your number to be called at the cooking area. Or something like that. I got confused in my tipsy state. From the bar, I ordered myself a blueberry ale (I love blueberry beers in the summer!!!) and a cheese burger. The cheese burger was definitely overpriced at $10.00... actually it might have been more than that.. like $12... since I think adding a slice of (I presumed it was) Kraft cheese was 2 bucks. Boooo. If a burger is going to be in that cost range, it better be up to Five Napkin quality! I couldn't even order it to my preferred preparation... medium rare. In hindsight I should have canceled my order but being on that floating dock with the wind in my hair and my (second) blueberry beer in my hand just made me hunnngrrryyy. I would go back with friends in the future to share a bucket of Coronas... but I think I will be more wary of the food I order this time.
by Terrell Glatt on This review is from Valentine's Day weekend. The Moshulu offered a 4-course prix fixe menu for Valentine's Day - most of the options are on their regular menu. Appetizers: Me: Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail - Boy were they jumbo! Three shrimp was PLENTY. Good cocktail sauce. Him: Cheese plate - DELICIOUS! Just enough cheese (on this trip, Cheddar, Bleu, and Brie) and sauce (honey, basalmic, and raspberry something) options to try them all and not feel overwhelmed. Soup/Salad: Me: Butternut Squash Soup - DELICIOUS with bits of spiced apple in the bottom of the bowl. Not as good as Supper's squash soup, but delicious all the same! Him: Lobster Bisque - Definitely a home run! Best lobster bisque EVER! And the baby shrimp were the perfect touch! Dinner: Both: Filet Mignon - 8oz, overcooked. Would have been delicious had my medium-rare steak not been medium-well. But I can get over it. Cauliflower puree was perfectly seasoned and lighter than the standard mashed potatoes. Asparagus was crispy and well-seasoned. Dessert: Both: Trio - Flourless chocolate cake was toooooooo dense. One bite was plenty. Tropical mousse was awesome. The top was tart and the bottom was sweet. Flavors of pineapple, passionfruit, and something tangy. Delicious. Berry tart was standard. Kinda boring, but tasted good. Service was spotty. Started out VERY strong and then he sort of disappeared. I know it was Valentine's Day and it was busy, but we watched another server circulating like nobody's business. Clientele is on the older side, but I like to be the youngster of the group, so I wasn't bothered. Overall Great!
by Antonio Babe on I love everything about Ecco! The atmosphere is great. The wine menu is fantastic. I love the European inspired menu. Ecco is truly unique . . . it is a fresh and delicious take on old world Europe. This place is a great date spot. . . It is almost effortlessly classy. It doesn't try to hard like so many chic restaurants do. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful without being intimidating. It is one of my favorite date spots for sure.
