by Marshall Kovar on Meh, meh, and meh. I still believe take-out Chinese is better, but the Golden Temple does have its strong points--like fresh ingredients. You certainly can't beat that. And, the food's not wet with dripping oil. Always a good thing. The food is only average except for the appetizers. The BBQ boneless pork strips in their hot mustard, woowee. The crab rangoons are the best I've ever tasted. The salt and pepper calamari was a bit too salty and the scallion pancakes were a bit dry and overcooked. But it's a good experience overall. The boyfriend got the half-duck (which I can't begin to review because all I see are mallards and it freaks me out) -- I got spicy shrimp which was OK, not at all spicy to my disappointment, and was swimming in sauce. Everything came out within minutes of ordering. It was bizarre. We were in and out in an hour. One thing, their menu doesn't have prize dessert offerings. The waiter informed us that even their tarts came frozen. Weird. So we got a trio of gelato. But when they arrived they were all out of the flavors, except for green tea. So we had the green tea flavor and it wasn't so good; a weird, sandy texture, and just boring overall. Oh, the MaiTais are deadly but delicious. Rum, rum, and a splash of rum. Seriously, limit yourself to one. Trust me, too many barfy mornings and now I stay away.
