do YOU want to relive a jr. high dance? us either. the only difference was that the music was louder and the people were older. but not much. at least they had valet and nice bouncers.

I moved to Austin about a month ago, anxious to get my little paws on some delicious Tex-Mex morsels. Sadly, my high hopes have been dashed by mediocre food and uninspired drinks at several of what Austin folks consider tried and true favorites. Trudy's, unfortunately, was no exception. My party ordered Fish Tacos and the Enchilada platter. Though the fish tacos were OK, the enchiladas left much to be desired. You can just keep smothering food with cheese and expect everyone to mistake its pungency for seasoning. The margaritas were pretty good, but I was disappointed with the whole "Mexican Martini" thing. It really wasn't that strong (and a little too sweet), and although they give you an extra shaker of sauce, I was stone sober. I must admit however, that I do have a liver that hates me. But all that other stuff aside, what was most disappointing was the guacamole, which was just plain gross. And to add insult to injury, served on a piece of lettuce. This is totally the hater in me, but, why the hell put something like guacamole on lettuce. Totally lame. Presentation? I think not. By putting anything on shredded lettuce (iceberg) is like telling someone, "We know this is stupid, but you'll think it looks classy. That's how much we love you, not much." Anyway, 2-stars.
