by Elna Rakus on It's funny how many nights out on the town, have ended up here at Sutra unintentionally. My night starts out, planning to go to Opera, or Leopard Lounge or some other place nearby, but then the lines are too long at Opera, the crowd or music isn't so great at Leopard Lounge, so where do we head.....SUTRA!!! That being said, I must say although it's not one of my first places to want to go for a night out on the town, it never fails, that I have a GREAT night when I end up here after all is said and done!! I've NEVER paid cover to get in,which is always great! We usually get out there early,so it's pretty dead to begin the night out, but once 11:30 or so hits, man that place is PACKED!! That would probably be the only downside I have, it does get hot, and you will most likely be sweaty, but it's still fun for a night of dancing. The dj is good, and plays the most recent hits, and even takes requests if you want. I would definitely recommend this place if you're just looking for a guaranteed fun night out and full of dancing!!! Man, writing this brings back memories, and I haven't been out there since Halloween so I might need to make a trip back out myself..... LoL!
by roderick A. on I had to get rid of my previous review of Webster Hall. My mind has now been changed about this wonderful place. Saw Silversun Pickups (or SSPU to the young folks out there) the other night. What I always liked about this place was that it is kind of easy to maneuver your way towards the front of the stage. And that is what I did, of course. I'm standing there, the concert starts. all of a sudden, this drunken couple pushes and shoves their way in front of me and these two short girls who had already positioned themselves so they could see the stage clearly. Now these drunken buffoons had blocked their view. The music is rocking, and the dude is jumping up and down, arms flailing, doing the "white man's overbite". As he's jumping he lands on my ankle. Twice. So I politely tapped him on the shoulder and yelled at him that he just landed on my ankle twice. He just gives me a "shoo, go away" motion with his arm and turns back around to watch the show. Now pissed off, i have to admit, and you will hate me for this, I spit on him. He turned around and shoved me. I shoved him right back. there were a few screams from the people around us, and the dude's girlfriend grabbed him and made him stop. Seconds later, he extended his hand out and apologized. I shook it, and apologized as well. We even made small talk about how its a concert, its okay for people to be jumping up and down, etc. And he apologized for landing on my ankle. And we both agreed to just rock the frack out the rest of the night. Good thing his girlfriend stopped him because he really could've kicked my ass. Hell, a wind breeze can knock me over. But the moral of the story kids: its places like Webster Hall, where music can bring people together.
