by Christy T. on I could not visit ATL without having some southern comfort food. South City surpassed my expectations of fried chicken and biscuits and introduced me to fried chicken livers and it was a welcome introduction that I found myself wanting to order again and again. The food was amazing, the service great and the restaurant very welcoming and modern.
by Lucie Towey on We were four girls out on a Wednesday night after the New Year's. What to do? It was our girls' night out with my sister, who was visiting from Germany. Clueless that most establishments were closed that evening, I planned a nice cozy evening at Mr. Smith's. We walked towards the joint to see that the doors were chained, bar is closed! We looked at each other, " North Beach? " Yeah! ... but where? "Rosewood"? yeah! A cab dropped us at the front of a dark, empty and locked Rosewood. Oh no! .. Ok, let's regroup....! We headed to our favorite, Panta Rei, for a bottle of red and a bit of reconnaissance planning. We queried the waitresses and staff, where to go on a Wednesday night? They whispered, "Starlight" "Starlight"? I thought, ewww... you're kidding right? Starlight, if I recall, was as such an old-school, has-been joint. After our wine, we walked through a very desolate Grant street with empty bars. Bar and restaurant staffs were bored smoking by the street. We asked each person as we encountered them, where to go? "Starlight" was the unanimous answer we received. We were in a dilemna. We wanted to hang out, dance a bit, and eye-candy. The problem was that we were four disparate girls with unique preferences, so we needed to find a joint that catered to our varying tastes. Finally encountered another waiter from Ideale, this time, we quickly asked him point blank: "Where can we hangout where there are European guys, American yuppies, hip Filipino guys and African American men?" He looked at us with confidence and retorted back: "Starlight!", while simultaneously, a cab drove by, and there we were destination ... Starlight! What did we find? indeed a smorgasboard of people! It was exactly what we wanted, dancing, eye-candy'ing, and top of the city views! Awww man! ... we were like children in disneyland ... a character here and there for our eye-viewing pleasure. Apparently, Wednesday night is the night where the more young'ish, albeit not really hip, crowd go to. There were not many old-school dirty old men, just a strange mix of just about anything and everything. Not hip, but definitely a nice entertainment venue for a girls' mid-week night out. The ambience was still old-school looking, the DJ played variations of popular music and mainstream hiphop. The cover was $10 a head and drinks were priced normally. The bonding between sisters and cousins, priceless; while the eye-candy view, indeed entertaining!
