by Louie F. on I've been going to this place since it was called "The Garage" to watch local and visiting groups. I hadn't gone in years, but recently went to check out some clients who had come in from out of town to do a show here and was pleased to see how this spot looks now. Nice decorations, good ambiance, nice stage lighting (it's a small stage in the room towards the left, so the lighting they use creates a warm feel for the artists performing) and a well-stocked bar (although no Chimay when I went, hopefully they'll step their game up soon and start stocking this brew). Sound systems are something I'm personally very picky about and the setup currently is great. I was about 15 feet from the stage and the sound was loud enough to feel the music but not too loud, which usually makes me go towards the back of the room. They also had a good balance of instruments, so the sound tech(s) they have seem to be on the ball.
by Kip Maze on Went in for after-work drinks with co workers and fell in love with this Senegalese bar. Tried the appetizers and would highly recommed the plantains with yogurt-tamarind dip. Even the guacamole was pretty darn tasty. The hibiscus margarita and coconut infused rum cocktail are a definite crowd pleaser but more so that the food and drinks is the bonafide, West African vibe at this spot . The music was spot on and the candles and cozy decor made me feel as if I was at a bar in Dakar, Accra or Freetown.....at least as close as one can get being in San Francisco which is essentially devoid of any West African influences. Friendly service, good food, good drinks, great music....that's what eating out is all about!
