by Claire C. on This place is just too small for a weekend party. I guess you either have fun because you like half of the people in there or it sucks because you don't like most of the people and you have to deal with sweaty people breathing down your neck and touching you as they squeeze by. the overall package is there for a good club but it's just too small. maybe if you take over the whole place to throw an exclusive party, it would be the best place ever. And no, I do not have time to go party on week days, so I can't vouch for the Tenjune Tuesdays scene.
by Kaley Deedrick on A failed attempt to eat at the new Stortini (note: an 8:45 arrival will not get you served at Stortini if they close at 9:00) landed us at the Red House Lounge recently. Once our palates got over their priming for Italian food, we chose some paninis off the menu at Red House and settled down on the back porch. I loved the drink menu and the very laid-back vibe of the place - it feels like the kind of place that I could just kick back and drink and hang out with friends for hours and hours without getting tired of it. The mini, fake animal heads on the wall cracked me up - as did the large, plastic "Mr. Ed" head hanging over the bar. Whoever decorated this place has a sense of humor. I did notice that a couple of other reviewers mentioned how crowded this place gets. It was really empty when we were there, but I'm guessing that part of that was because Stortini was about to close, so there weren't any Stortini customers waiting for a table at the Red House. Also, if the weather outside is bad, that really limits the seating at Red House; a large portion of their space is outdoors. Let's talk about the food (it's always about the food, isn't it?). I usually think of paninis as being pressed sandwiches, which these weren't, but an Internet search reveals that the term is commonly used for grilled sandwiches, as well. Who knew? What I do know, however, is that my panini (or whatever it was) was downright mmmmmmmmm. Goat cheese and pesto formed a perfect union on buttery, crusty, warm bread; the result: a delicious and plenty satisfying meal. Despite the overall positive experience, I did want to mention that the service that night was a bit off. Different people kept telling us different stories about how late they were open/serving that night, and everyone just seemed sort of crabby and unhelpful in general. Nevertheless, I feel sure I'll be back - if I can make it through Stortini without stopping, that is!
