by Yanna S. on I went here with a few friends on a Tuesday night and had a blast! The drink specials are crazy! The bar staff was friendly and very fun!- They were quite entertaining actually. The bartender bought us delicious shots because it was my friends Birthday! The people at Jake's seemed to come from all walks of life which I like (it wasn't your stereotypical college bar). The food was surprisingly good too! ( we got the nachos and they are huge!). I also got a salad which was very good. I am planning making Jake's a go-to from now on.

When Busby's opened up their Miracle Mile location just a few blocks from my house, I was quite excited about the prospect of having a new neighborhood hangout within stumbling distance. After three visits, however, I doubt I will go back. First, the good things. Good draft beer selection, huge portions of food, pool tables. And plasma TVs! If you want to watch sports, Busby's has so many plasma TVs, they'll make your head spin. Rather than necessarily being a plus, they're a bit on the overwhelming side. Also, there seem to be more TVs than chairs. Even if you do want to watch sports, chances are you won't find a place to sit. Also on the downside, Busby's suffers from really bad lighting (too bright/flourescent). It's an overly lit, sterile, frat party atmosphere that smells of stale beer, and barring the waitresses in extra-short skirts, an almost exclusively male domain. If you're a female customer, don't expect to be greeted, paid attention to, or waited on promptly, if at all. This has been my experience all three times, as well as the experience of my female friends and acquaintances who have wandered into Busby's separately. Busby's also features a dance floor in their "Mile High Club," but don't bother going there if you're expecting to dance to anything other than crappy, overplayed Top 40.
