Went here a few weeks ago for the first time to see Elbow... I was actually surprised at the sound here - its amazing. Getting there sucked, the parking lot next door was $25, and for some reason I find it hard to justify paying more to park than to actually get into the show, so I ended up driving around for probably 25 minutes until I found a (free!) spot a few blocks away. Its beautiful inside, the staff were nice enough.. The layout is such that if you do not get there early, and you are not super tall you probably wont be seeing much of the show from the back. I also found that DURING the show, lots of people kept forcing their way through the crowd to get to the bar, and then returning with full beers that they had to slosh all over everyone to get back to their spot. Somewhat annoying, but maybe it was just the crowd that night.

I decided to celebrate my birthday at suite 181 because I was in search of  a nicer "upscale" place, however I was in for a bad surprise.  OK so the story begins when i place 30 people on the guest-list...I arrive with a few folks and the guest-list line is motionless, meanwhile, the regular line is moving at a steady pace...so naturally, we migrate.  Here is where I'm officially disturbed.  So, I look around and i notice white tee-shirts and jeans.  I'm thinking "HM, ok, I thought the dress code was "strict and enforced"- not!.  I guess saying that just gives the bouncers a reason to walk around with their Walgreen's flashlights checking to make sure your shoes are of the correct type...that type being not Lugz or boots.  The bouncer keeps walking up and down the line looking for a reason to be an a55hole because he takes every opportunity to degrade or humiliate the men in line...at this point I'm thinking "this guy must have a very small penis, shrunken nuts and is suffering from illusions of grandeur".  I was wishing he would say something to me because he would have received a free psychoanalysis to bring him back down to size...no pun intended.  We get in the club and i immediately see stains on the carpet and trash on the stairs, i also notice some tagging on the pink vinyl cross-stitched wall (tacky). We're upstairs at the counter and the cashier had major attitude...double checking my $20 and rolling her eyes...um...ok.  I went to check my coat in having second thoughts, wondering if I would get it back at the end of the night.  I do it anyway, its stuffy and there are plenty of sloppy drunk obviously underage girls spilling their long islands all over other people's clothes.  I need a drink at this point. Perhaps a bit of alcohol will help me forget that my feet are sticking to the floor and there the stench of vomit by a garbage can...gross.  The VIP lounge is cute, too bad its empty, perhaps its because for $300 per 4 people a bottle of Grey Goose vodka is a joke. We venture to the lower level, and again the VIP area is sectioned off and empty.  There isn't a seating area aside from the empty plush lounge so after a few drinks and a lot of dancing, I need a rest.  I cross the the land of the forbidden and sit...ooops...here comes the gestapo to escort me off the  VIP only seating.  Great! I feel sooooooo special.  Although I make the most of it because my friends are with me and f$%^ it, I'm there, I vow never to step foot in Suite 181 ever again.  The owners should rethink their strategy.  If you're going to promote upscale, you should do upscale.  Think 40/40 club in New York, dress code enforced: dresses and suits only and good customer service.  The staff are tacky and rude.  The club needs a personnel clean-up. Some class would be nice and way better for business. Hopefully they'll get shut down soon when someone gets busted for allowing teenagers in. fin.
