by Alison C. on The Frying Pan is one of my favorite bars in Manhattan, and I spend the winter months pining for its seasonal opening. A resurrected antique ship lends the name to this unique venue. Patrons can explore the boat, as well as drink and dine on the attached bi-level pier. Live musical acts are usually present on Friday and Saturday evenings, while a more relaxed crowd takes advantage of the sunset views earlier in the day. The cocktails are served in tiny plastic cups, but are rather potent. While I have never eaten at The Frying Pan, I have seen many people order the juicy-looking hamburgers. The venue is also frequently utilized as an event location. The Frying Pan is a creative space that offers a rare outdoor experience unlike the highbrow scene that plagues most NYC scenester rooftops.
by Orville Tostanoski on I'm fortunate to see some of my favorite bands up close at this venue. The staff is cool, the drinks are refreshing, and the upstairs viewing area allows me to see the bands comfortably. The crimson and gold decor is detailed and the seating upstairs is reminds me of box seats of an opera house, with the guests leaning over to view the shows. The sound is great here, but bring earplugs to prevent the normal lingering concert after-ring. Rock on!
