Attended Opera for a company Christmas party and the food, service, and decor was splendid. This is a great venue for hosting a reception, company party, etc. Presentation is well executed here. However....later, I stayed when the club was opened up and all I could think of was, "why is that old lady swinging on the pole, and why is that man looking at her like that, gag." While I love the decor of this place, I do not like the set up nor the music. It's great for you youngins who want to dance all night long, but us over the 30 crew need a seat to rest and pop our hips, necks, and back out. Also, the night I attended was full on techno. I kept thinking it would have been great if only I brought my glow sticks. *insert sarcasm* My verdict: Great place for hosting events pre-nightclub., but once the club opens up run for the hills.

I do not recommend going to Ruby Skye. It costs around $20 apiece on an average night, for men and women alike, and there's pretty much always barf on the sidewalk out front when you're waiting to get in. No surprise! Once you're in the front door you'll see why. This place is a mecca for the very young...they must all have 21+ IDs and I'm not suggesting anyone's underage, but geez I must be getting old. There are kids getting wasted everywhere, and the two times I've been here I've been pushed around in the bathroom line by loud bachelorette girls who looked instead like they were there for a drunken quinceañera. College-aged boys everywhere trying to grind on you = not fun. Drinks = expensive. Crowd = incredibly hoochie and not really the type of people you want to share your evening with. Music = nothing special, just loud clubby stuff...may as well just go to the EndUp if you want to get wasted and dance all night. Atmosphere = cheesy, and the layout is kind of uncomfortable in the way that you always feel like you are on the edge of the dance floor or in front of the bar line. WORST PART: Yes, it's that horrible. The first time I was here, some girl came running into the bathroom saying she had been puked on by a stranger on the dance floor, and it was dripping off her hair and all over her back. The second time I was there, a girl came running into the bathroom saying she was going to barf. I got the heck out and never looked back, and you couldn't pay me enough to go back to this hoochie place.

In Matt's opinion, considerring Matt don't go to nice bars and restaurants often, Cafe Medjool is one the few nicest restaurants on the flithy Mission St. strip. The restaurant is dark and a cool place to chill and lounge with friends. They have a bar on both levels. The restaurant has live jazz band performing at the time. The balcony has a great view of disgusting Mission St. The recliners are low and very comfortable especially for Matt's little girl, who looks picture-perfect adorable in the comfy chair. Many people, unknown to Matt, say to me she is adorable. I proudly replied "Well, AHEM! "Where do you think she got her good looks from?" We were here during the evening to honor the Success in the Latino Communities throughout San Francisco and the entire Bay Area. With the annual increase in recent years, among all ethnic groups, Latino students have a high graduation rate in all levels of schools in California. Many latino parents, who has no money to afford their kids study, apply for grant money by the state and used the money appropriately for their kids' educations and succeeded. Their were many speakers in the ceremony, including Victor de la Rosa of the Mission Community Center in SF, the morning DJ from 93.3, the most popular latino radio station in California, and yes ladies, Mayor Newsom was there presenting the award to de la Rosa for his accomplishment in the success rate among latinoes in the Bay Area. That was a nice ceremony, but the real reason why Matt and Little Miss Rugrat came is to take advantage of the free food. The restaurant offer free appetizers for the ceremony. They serve fresh sliced pita-bread, hummus, and tabouli in the very beginning. Later they served coucous, curry-chicken and middle-eastern Prawn among other things. Matt ate like a human garbage disposal in front of the sophisticated people in suits and other snotty people who looks down on Matt. My daughter was the highlight of the evening, including her friendly conversation with Mayor Newsom. She was bashful after the talk with the mayor.
