Definitely an experience and a place where you go to be seen. Thankfully, I only had to walk through that "scene" on my way out from a business dinner relatively early in the evening. The food is VERY flavorful and I enjoyed the presentation and friendly wait service. The tables are situated pretty tight (mostly rounds) so it was kind of a pain to get to the restroom in the back of the restaurant. I didn't have any alcohol that night so was a little sad but I would come back if I was with someone who has never gone. I will say, there were quite a few cougars out that night which made for an entertaining exit that night, but definitely not my scene wth how crowded the bar was. Food was great tho, especially the Hong Kong shrimp!

seeking a late supper, after discovering over an hours' wait across the street, we decided to give ESSR a try. i've known of this place since it opened but had never been. i'm a firm believer of all good things in their own time shall come. the feel was vaudevillian / eastern bloc-ish, vintage 1930's-ish, moulin-rouge-ish. tiny tables, beautiful metal work chandeliers and seating (i think by one of the owners), casually-stylish waitstaff. intimate, convivial. we opted to share and try out a few things : an amazing stew of a menagerie of textures, tastes and aromas - topped with whipped mashed potatoes ... my word this was ridiculously delicious. accompanied with a delicious, fresh salad. we then split the axis venison steak with a molasses BBQ sauce and wrapped in bacon. tender, juicy, slightly-charred on the outside to perfection. the sauce was an amazingly complimentary - it clung to the meat for dear life - they definitely belong together. they were out of the beers we chose (eclectic collection available) but had some others. i opted for a prosecco - first served flat but once it was mentioned, they quickly whisked it away and replaced it with a fresh glass / no charge and very kind. they are known for their cocktails - i'm curious and will return to sample them one day but this wasn't that time. it was definitely a charming place. i spied a piano in the corner and half expected a monkey would soon approach our table offering cigars ... and had it happened, here at the east side show room ... i wouldn't have missed a beat. on the pricier side but most assuredly worth it.

Skip it...unless you're looking to just dance with your friends. The place reminded me of the 90's, especially the music selection (the chorus of songs were edited together for a lonnnnnnggggg medley which never stopped). And the worst thing...the ladies room! You know those swinging doors you see in Westerns? Those were the doors on the stalls...slats and all--perfect if you want a free show--which I did not!
