"If you are ever going to spend more than, say, six nights awake on a dangerous mixture of amphetamines and Cadbury eggs, there is simply no better place to spend your seventh night than the End Up." -- anonymous guy who I met at 4:18 in the morning a few weeks ago who informed me that he was saving the world from his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend by traveling through time. Basically, any place in the city that stays open past 2:00 (and it does! No alcohol until the clock strikes 6:00, of course), has a waterfall, a fireplace, a series of bewildering and beautifully laser-lit rooms, AND gets half-crazed endorsements from club-kids who clearly haven't seen a bed in far too many days is A-OK in my book. I love the end up, and I hope to end up there again and again in the future.
by Barrett Fiscal on Sorry guys, but Martuni's really bores me. I won't be a bitch and give it only two stars, because that wouldn't be fair. But I've been there several times to keep company to a friend of mine who just loves the place, and I just never really had much fun there. The music is usually pretty good, and on occasions very good. The place is also pretty intimate and cozy (at least the piano room in the back). But for some reason I think I just don't really enjoy the crowd, and I never really feel completely comfortable there. Another annoying part is how packed it gets on weekend nights: getting a seat is pretty much impossible, and forget about using the single-person bathroom. Kudos for the drinks, though, which are strong and pretty good in general. Just pick one from their cocktail menu and you won't be disappointed.
