by Isam R. on My girlfriend and I decided to go out to dinner after finals. We were finally done with the semester and ready for a night out on the town, post dinner. My GPS got me to One Midtown, which is in a really cozy spot, but valet parking made the entire experience so much easier and quick. There was not wait when we got there, and we ordered the calamari as an appetizer. The calamari was good, but the food itself was only half decent. I had the steak frites and my girlfriend had the scallops, neither one of which we really enjoyed. The only reason I had high expectations was because I had heard such wonderful things about the place. The chef had done a food tasting at Phipps a couple of years ago and the name of his restaurant always stuck in my head because the food he served was so delicious. It's obvious to me he doesn't work there anymore. The atmosphere was great. Our server was alright (I'm a server myself, so I don't take points off for that because I know things happen and sometimes you're absolutely swamped and it reflects on the service), but our refills took forever and the plates sat around for a while. It seemed she had a big party across the room, so all is forgiven :). My only complaint about the place was the food. it was bland and just not what I expected at all. Besides that, the atmosphere and restaurant itself are really cool. I just figured since I hated the food, two stars was all they could get, as they are a restaurant and it is kind of important.

I've kept you company on lonely weeknights, let you tell me your problems over a few drinks and a cigarette on your lovely porch. I have complimented you on your looks and all of your lovely masks hanging all over the walls and I even did that sexy little dance for you that one time on your dance floor. The least you could do is show up on time for our dates! Especially when I am giving you not just a threesome, but essentially an orgy on what would have probably been an otherwise boring weekday afternoon. Oh, and usually when I am kept waiting a half hour beyond when our hot date is supposed to start I get a flower or free drink or something as an apology. Goldfish don't count buddy, cause I see you give those to all of the ladies (and guys...hmmmm). If I didn't like you so much I might kick you to the curb, but I am still willing to let you make it up to me. However, you have lost a star for keeping a thirsty gal and her entourage waiting outside on the windy sidewalk. All I am saying is you have some work to do if you want to continue seeing me.
