by Kiki R. on You have those nights where you notice the food, you might even love and appreciate the food and the service, but bottom line, it's really more about the company. So it was with dinner as I hadn't seen my old coworker in quite some time and we had a lot of of catching up to do. But I did notice the Gothic chic candles adorning the walls, with the beautiful modern black chandelier and the glowing mosaic staircase leading downstairs. The superior service was also quite apparent. Our waitress was patient with our chit chat and the bartender sent out superb drinks. The bread trio was just so-so. The scallops and risotto were beautifully done, though the truffle taste sadly didn't come through for me. We both ordered the short ribs and were quite happy. The lovely "jus/sauce/whatever you want to call it" on my short ribs put it this dish in a far higher category than comfort food. Um, can i have a side of jus/sauce/whatever for dessert also? It was that lovely. But we abstained from dessert, given the generous portion of the entrees. There are so many restaurants to try in NY but if I happened to cross paths with Amalia again I certainly wouldn't turn it down.
