by Lou Castanon on If you come to this venue, definitely arrive with all girls dressed skimpily. Thank goodness I have pretty friends...or else I'd be waiting in the back of the line FOREVER. It's apparently cool to have a line of people waiting outside, thus, no one really enters prior to the "guestlist" deadline. However, my entourage got placed ahead in the girls-only/VIP line so we entered sharply before 11pm, avoiding the cover charge and the cold weather. It's a nicely decorated venue - upscale lights and dimly lit stage. I like how the bar is separated from the dancing area and is large enough to chill around (AMF $11). Interesting upbeat music, mostly mixes of the old + new top 40 songs. The venue itself is a long rectangular shaped box, with a large stage and several VIP areas. The crowd seems to be around 25+ and quite energetic...though I must comment on the backdrop screen with a DVD of some war movie playing...wtf? The highlight of my night was yelling and shoving a creeper for inappropriateness, but the birthday crew I was with seemed satisfied and happy with the night. Thus, no complaining there. Cheers to more dancing and less fighting :).
by Terrance Waddel on This review applies only to the Maggiano's at the Domain in Austin. I have eaten at Maggiano's in Chicago, Orange County,Dallas and Houston, and everyone of them was great. Good service and food was good. So when I found out that Maggiano's was opening a location in Austin, I was very excited. Unfortunately, the Austin location is a BIG disappointment. I went here for lunch about 1 month after it opened. Awful service, waited forever for our meal, even water, bread didn't come to our table until about 15 minutes after seating down. The restaurant was not overly busy or anything, but food just took forever and our waiter hardly even knew we were there. I told the manager about this and he was very apologetic, so we would attribute this to the restaurant being new. Against my better judgement, we decided to give Maggiano's a second chance and came back here for dinner with some friends over the Memorial Day weekend. This time the waiter seemed to be more attentive, but ultimately he failed. We ordered a bottle of wine, it did not come until after our appetizers had already come. Our wine was a Prosecco, a sparkling wine for a hot summer day, I knew we were in trouble when our waiter asked, "What's that?". The wine list only had 1 single bottle of prosecco, so what could cause that confusion? Our waiter seemed totally lost on how to do his job. Never checked on our water, breads, simple things that I have come to expect from Maggiano's at all other locations. Ordered the calimari for an appetizer...I don't know why but here they serve the dish with some goopy white gravy instead of the standard marinara sauce. I found that out the first time, so this time I specifically asked for marinara sauce and no white gravy..Of course when the calimari came out, no marinara and comes with white gravy. I thought this was a Texas thing, but realized that the Maggiano's in Houston and Dallas always had marinara sauce. My main dish was the Lobster sphagetti..cold and the past was dry, hardly any sauce in the dish. By this time, I didn't even bother because I was just so done with this place. Its a shame that Maggiano's management has not taken the time to learn from other locations and allow this location to just about ruin the name of Maggiano's.
by Gary E. on Best place in the City I've seen live music. Stereophonics almost blew the roof off this place, but thankfully they didn't - cause that roof is gorgeous. Nice wee intimate venue, and they don't oversell the room or charge the extortionate drink prices found like the Fillmore. (Yes, yes, I'm dissing the Fillmore - even though I know Jerry played there, as did Hendrix, U2, Jefferson Airplane, Jesus, and Abe Lincoln was shot here*) And - AND - you got the boobies next door at O'Farrel Brothers! (*I know - he was actually shot at the Warfield.)
