Music? Good, very upbeat and danceable songs Environment? Nice ambience and holiday decor Guestlist? Apparently nonexistent. This is why I gave the place a 3. I showed up with around 10 of my college friends, and we were all 100% sure we signed up for guestlist cause we saw the confirmation website. The lady at the door took our IDs one after another, and said that none of us were on the guestlist. Same thing happened for the group of girls that were in front of us. We tried telling her that we signed up and even got the confirmation site but she was being super rude and told us to pay or leave. Wth? What are the chances that all my my friends signed up but none of us were on the list? They really have to find a new way of doing their list cause we weren't too happy about that.

The door may be tougher than Fort Knox but it's like the Garden of Eden inside. Provocateur knows who their key client is and definitely caters to women. It is comprised of two distinct nightlife settings: nightclub and lounge. The former makes maximal use of the outdoor garden space with a retractable glass roof. Inside there are photos murals depicting rooms from a dollhouse, stripper poles, and a luminescent pair of angel wings juxtaposed behind a black catwalk which is perfect for a "Zoolander" style walk-off. They have also consulted with some famous skincare guru for their cocktail menu. Each drink contains vitamins, niacin, and other detoxifying ingredients so you can drink for your beauty. Probably one of the top 5 clubs at the moment. It's about time that the Gansevoort Hotel did something right!

This is what my cinematically-addled mind conjurs when someone utters "jazz lounge". So, as the lead guitarist/vocalist makes his way around the room, riffing chords one-handed while nursing a drink with the other, I polished off my third Stella w/Rose's Lime, and just took in the scene. What a great spot! Funky jazz/blues standards thumping through the room, courtesy of the 5-piece band, fronted by an age'd and obvious veteran to the scene on lead guitar. Linen suit'd men, leaned back in their seats, sipping on bourbon-n-cokes, tapping their feet, nodding their heads, fedoras tilted stylishly to the side. Women, in extravagent party dresses and waist coats, with their hair did, swaying left to right, eyes closed, snapping away to the rhythm, flashing gold bangles and fresh manicures... "Mmmmph, go on now...." And as the action at the bandstand keeps the audience entranced, the action at the bar gets just as hot; slick gents with a "lean" gabbing smoothly, employing their best macks on the voluptuous honey-dips sided up next to them. "Yo, what's good, sugah....? You're lookin' lovely tonight..." ... yeah... smoove.... Him: So... do you dance? Her: Depends, you askin'? Him: *extends hand, gestures to the floor* Her: Alright, show me what you got... __________________________________________________ __ In between sets, the house system plays a mix of vintage to current R&B, to which some spontaneous (or liquor fueled) dancing might spring forth...
