Philadelphia, you should be ashamed of this establishment. Not even for the English-only/proud-to-be-American schpeel. I'm taking that out of the equation, because I'm trying to judge on food alone. The bread looked good, but the texture was awful. Way too chewy. Beef not seasoned very well. I can understand going to a restaurant for kitsch factor, and typically the food isn't the best, but good enough to be enjoyed. It's like Cafe du Monde in New Orleans. Not the best beignets, but at least they're good. Or Ben's Chili Bowl in DC. Not the best chili nor half-smokes, but still good enough. Well Philadelphia. Geno's is NOT good enough. I've had better steaks from a mall. Good riddance.

A coworker and I went here by recommendation from our hotel concierge while out of town on business. We were unfamiliar with the area and it was a lively surprise in the middle of what seemed to be a fairly random and run down business district. A late seventies/ early 80s motif and music genre welcomed us in and per the hotel's suggestion we headed up the elevator to the roof top bar. After a delayed flight and a long day, we were anxious for some food and refreshment and a server seemed to be anywhere but serving people. After we felt like we waited for long enough, I went and found her to ask her for menus - only to be met with the menu I requested and a death stare. Needless to say, we moved to the bar instead of the table with the evil waitress and the night soared up from there. Their eclectic american menu had lots of tasty offerings and we both loved the lobster macaroni and cheese, fried pickles, and ahi tuna tartare. They had lots of funky drinks too- including at least one with candy in the cocktail - I tried a few and they were all pretty sweet but fun to at least start off the night with. The desserts were hit or miss - unless you love bubbletea/tapioca balls - I would skip the fruit loops. I would definitely go back (if I happen to be in town) for the food and at least the bartender's service. It's worth a shot!
