So we are from the Main Line suburbs, not snobs just fun folks. In my younger days used to visist CBGB in NYC and funky places. I thought it would be fun to experience the funky side of Philly so after dinner I told my wife and 22 yr old daughter that we were going to a speakeasy. Anyway we walk down this crappy alley, find the door with an "R" and enter. We enter what feels like a Time Machine! Darkest place I have ever been in, portraits of topless women on the walls, velvet wall paper. Have patience I tell my wife, this should be fun. And it was!

Blech, another tapas place... oh wait! They have tacos!! And good ones at that! Yeah, this is more of a tapas place, and EVERY time I have gone there it has been slam packed; BUT the good thing about that, is you get to stand outside in the patio and drink up! The drinks are big and strong, but are also kind of expensive, and the sangria is divine! I don't think that I would go here unless someone in my group wanted to go, but every time I have gone, it has been good!

this club remains a favorite venue of mine for the following reasons: 1. Great for private events because of their good reputation as a solid venue for both music and parties, as well as the fact that the neighborhood offers plenty of parking. 2. Their ridiculous sound system given the size of the space. I've seen an array of music acts here now, and I'm just endlessly astonished. Bring earplugs! 3. The intimate size and large lofty ceiling. It just feels right. Another thing, many of their show presale tickets offer a "open-bar" ticket option which gives you a special laminated pass to get free drinks all night and it's often $30 or so more than the basic presale ticket price. I'm not sure if this is arranged through this club directly or the particular show's management, but this feature is AWESOME! My only gripe is that they're cash-only, but with the size of the club I can sympathize (unlike large venues like 1015 that do no accept credit, I think is just blasphemy), and to be fair there is an ATM machine inside.

Very intimate space, sometimes for sold out shows it's hard to see the performers but the acoustics are good. The bar itself reminds me of a speakeasy and there is plenty of seating if you're not in the mood to watch the whole show. You can reserve tables too if you plan on eating dinner there (actually pretty good food). One of my favorite singers is Etienne de Rocher and I love seeing him either here or at Bruno's.
