my rule on mexican food is always this: chain restaurants will NEVER have better food than your local, family owned restaurant but will ALWAYS over charge you. generic, bland and ridiculously overpriced - M.J's is not an exception.

The Bubble Lounge has done a great job of gently reinventing themselves to stay relevant over the years. Live jazz and blues acts have turned into background house music and the snotty dot-com era service ("This table is reserved, don't even think about looking at it.") has mostly been replaced by courteous, helpful staff. We threw a wedding shower here last week for some coworkers and we were very well taken care of. We had the whole front section, there were three bottles of champagne waiting for us, and they coordinated with yummy Bocadillos next door to supply us with hearty snacks. I was especially impressed with the way our server deftly handled side orders of wine and cocktails once the company-sponsored licks were drained. Yes, the Bubble Lounge caters to non-bubble lovers as well--I had a great, reasonably-priced Zinfandel that I would definitely order again. Their new Friday night happy hour seems to be attracting pretty people without the petty attitude--give them a fresh look-see.
