I like The Endup, mainly because it is shrouded in myth and legend. I have heard tales of the petite female Asian bouncer immobilizing the most behemoth of troublemakers with a death grip involving just her pinky. Members of the Chinese underworld are fabled to convene here and plot their takeover of...things. It is open 24 hours, and what unusual mystical creatures actually party here between the hours of 4am and 4pm is a tantalizing mystery to 9 to 5 mortals. But really when you're actually there, it's just like any other gay club. You have your clique of gay men sitting outside having a smoke, gay men dancing with other gay men, gay men so drunk they start hitting on women (i.e. me). There's still a fair share of straight clientele, and the thing about everybody gay or straight is that they're really friendly. The bartenders are nice and the music's great. You really can't walk into the Endup and leave without having had a good time. But when I pass that petite Asian female at the door, or see those middle aged men sitting on the patio in silence, I do wonder.

I was visiting a friend in San Francisco who happened to live 2 blocks away from the main strip of The Mission. Needless to say, there was a lot to do the few days I was there. One evening we stopped by Little Baobab due to the fact everything else looked completely packed (it was crazy to see steam flowing out of the bar next door). Right off the bat, there was a really chill vibe about the place. It was dimly lit and had scattered tables and chairs. It is supposed to have an African theme/style. We decided to have dinner there and it was awesome. I don't remember what my friend had, but it was some kind of roasted bird and quite tasty. I had the lamb curry and that was awesome as well. We arrived a little late, so we got to stay as the place transformed from a restaurant to a full-fledged bar as tables were cleared away and a DJ setup while people started dancing. Once that happened, there was AWESOME drinks that I had never thought could work. A hibiscus cocktail? A tamarind cocktail? Really? Yeah... really. It was all excellent and fun. I will admit it was very hot and a bit crammed inside... but it was fun. Tasty drinks and everyone shaking furiously to those addictive Afro-Beats... is that really a problem? Check it out.

When our big screen just won't due we go to Jillian's at the Metreon to see Sunday afternoon football. The appetizers here are great, as are the drinks (which can add up so mind your ducats), and they somehow taste even better when you can watch three football games at once on gigantic projection screens above the main bar. Go early and get a booth upfront if you want the best seat in the house.
