Great little spot on the border of downtown and the Highlands. Good food, doable portions (definitely NOT for the perpetual overeater. But for those who prefer simply satiation, this place is made for you), and cozy atmosphere. Got the couscous, which, despite the overwhelming cilantro aroma, was very good and went along with the hangar steak very nicely. Went with a small party and ordered a variety of stuff, all very tasty. Doesn't seem like you can really go wrong at this place . Warning: space is heavily limited, so avoid big parties. They only have an occupancy space of about 50 or so. Good for intimate dates, small groups. Bar is downstairs, dining upstairs, parking is free and fairly plentiful.

This is more like 3.5 stars, really. I like this place; it's where I go for Ethiopian when I'm at my boyfriend's place. I should mention that I've never gone here for drinks so I'm reviewing it as a restaurant only. The atmosphere is weird. Kind of divey, actually. The place is relatively clean and doesn't smell like smoke or anything, but the decor is definitely dated. The cut-out velvet wallpaper bubbles off the walls in some place and it feels uncomfortably 70s (of all the decades, that's the one that makes me feel the most uncomfortable for some reason). But everyone there is super nice, and the service is good. While I like Cafe Colucci in Oakland better, the food is pretty good at Waziema too. The boneless chicken is delicious. I found the lamb to be on the dry side, but still extremely flavorful and tasty. I found the mushrooms to be disappointing, but only because they cost more. They were good but they weren't $2 extra good (we got the veggie combo and they said it'd be $2 extra to get the mushrooms). The vegetable stew was good too but nothing to write home about. I liked the meats better than the veggies. The injera was fresh and also good; nothing particularly stuck out about it. In conclusion: I go to Waziema and enjoy it when I'm in the neighborhood, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go there.

Lots of memories at the End Up. T-Dance used to be so much fun, it still is if you can catch it on a good Sunday but it is hit or miss nowadays. I really miss KitKat on Thursday nights, that was a great party; deep sexy house until 4am. I believe they now have another Thursday night party but I'm not sure what it's like. Props to the End Up though for keepin' it real all these years- I don't think there is any other place in the city where you can keep the party going through the entire weekend and into Monday morning... good times!
