A friend of mine had a birthday party here. She rented out the back billiards room for the entire evening, or so she thought. They neglected to tell her that at the stroke of midnight the room was reserved for someone else. They probably could have done this during one of the many phone or email conversations, when we arrived that evening, or even at 11:45 pm before the crazies started to elbow their way in. Most of our group had left by then (many because of the heat), but there were still a few of us, a plate of cupcakes and my friend's stash of brithday gifts. When the new crew showed up, they ate the rest of the cupcakes and threw aside the ipod we had playing. The host finally showed up to "facilitate" the transition and let us know that in fact the room was no longer ours. She moved us to a couple of cramped tables out front where we could watch the freakshow unfold (see other reviewer's descriptions of odd characters in snake skin pants etc). As my friend gathered up her gifts, ipod, and cupcake crumbs, one of the new party guests told her "your party's over b!t@h so get out of here." The one star goes to our waitress who actually did a pretty good job of bringing drinks with a big crowd. But I won't go back to this place. There is nothing classy about it. It is not old San Francisco, it is just bad San Francisco.

Not all that great from this woman's perspective. One, the bartender didn't have any beer (huh?). Two, as my friend put it, it's like a stripjoint for the Asian mafia - predominantly young Asian guys and girls dancing badly to hip hop and getting B&T on the bartop. Third, the pickings look grim: you have your choice of creepy older agressive men who live and work miles away from SF, or underage girls trying to prove they can get into a club. Clearly, a tragedy waiting to happen either way. And like others have said before me, the men really do not take no for an answer. Safety in numbers won't help, as they'll pick you off and drag you away by the wrist while your friends are distracted with dancing. NO EXAGGERATION. This is a common complaint among women who are familiar with the place. You can't enjoy yourself when you have to keep vigilant for each other all night. We had a friend dragged off and disappeared for what must have been a couple of hours before she came back really annoyed. I'd give it no stars at all if it weren't for the cute, levelheaded bartenders and the tasty drinks. And the decor isn't a complete dump. But I'd need a pretty good reason to return.
