Great little spot on the border of downtown and the Highlands. Good food, doable portions (definitely NOT for the perpetual overeater. But for those who prefer simply satiation, this place is made for you), and cozy atmosphere. Got the couscous, which, despite the overwhelming cilantro aroma, was very good and went along with the hangar steak very nicely. Went with a small party and ordered a variety of stuff, all very tasty. Doesn't seem like you can really go wrong at this place . Warning: space is heavily limited, so avoid big parties. They only have an occupancy space of about 50 or so. Good for intimate dates, small groups. Bar is downstairs, dining upstairs, parking is free and fairly plentiful.

Easy to get into, being that I am a girl. Unfortunately, if you are a boy, you will not be allowed to enter. My guy friends were gonna meet us up at this place and I had to go back out to escort them in, so be sure to bring lots of ladies with you. The downstairs area was very nice with and inside area that had tables and an opposing outside area with trees and tables condusive for good conversations with friends. They even have this little pseudo fireplace area that seems very cozy where a lot of people just sit around and talk. However, once you get upstairs its becomes very crowded , noisy, and hot in some areas. Unfortunately the hot area, is where the music can be heard better which is a shame if you wanna dance. The cooler area is where the bar is and where the couches are located. The big downside of the night was that a fight broke out, which lead to a guy breaking a bottle over another guys head. Damn you angry drunks! But it didn't really stop anyone from continuing there night because they were ushered out shortly after their tirade. Also, from what I noticed, the crowd was mostly asian. Overall, it was ok. I think this place would be better for dinner than for a night out.

***Something to ad to my earlier review*** Open mic Mondays are AWESOME. I went this week, my first time. It was better than American Idol---way better. Frankly, I wasn't sure what type of self-respecting musicians would show up at 4:30 p.m. on a Monday to get their names on a list to play two sings at an open mic (the show starts at 7:30 p.m.), but there were a few legit artists who were there at what's arguably the city's coolest venue to get their name out. Others were hilariously awful. Others still were hilariously awful but thought they were awesome---some of the disasters actually, if you can believe it, had stage names for themselves. I'm sure there are nights when the real talent stays home, the jokes don't feel like humiliating themselves, and all you're left with is a bunch of unexciting mediocrity---I'm sure this happens from time to time; open mic nights are crap shoots after all. But if you're lucky enough to catch a show like the one I saw last night, you'll probably never forget it. **** Ya, World Cafe Live is actually built beside the studios of WXPN, a University of Pennsylvania-affiliated radio station that gained national acclaim when it started its famous "World Cafe Live" radio show. Recently, some investors took the concept and made it into a great restaurant venue. When big-time business types come in like this, you always wonder if they'll stay true to the essence of the original project, and I really think they have with WCL. The focus of the venue is still very much to offer a great environment for the best local and national artists-- and they offer it all at pretty reasonable ticket prices. Just for an example, Charlie Hunter is playing the little stage (!!!) this month, and it's just $16 for tix. The food is good, slightly more than what you'd want to pay for show snacks (like $5 for fries) -- but with food quality leagues ahead, the WCL prices still beat what you'd pay for a lousy hot dog and soda at the Electric Factory.
