by Josh L. on I will never again go to Gloria's, and I suggest none of my Austin friends do either. I went there for a buddy's going away party and the first thing was they charge $10 to get in, ok not the greatest but I can deal with it. I got to get a well rum & coke, $8. Ok seriously? Fine I dealt with that. What did it for me was when I go ask for some water. The guy gives me a bottled water and says "$2", I said no I mean a glass and he says "We only have bottled water." I went to the manager and asked for a glass of water and he says they only have glasses of water until 11pm when it goes from being a restaurant to a nightclub. I said that I can get free water at other nightclubs and the manager gets this look of incredulity and says "Where?" and I said downtpwn, east or west 6th or the warehouse district and this guy has the nerve to tell me I'm wrong. I told him "I worked downtown for 4 1/2 years and you can get it at any bar and don't talk to me like I'm stupid." I will never go back to this place. Other than seeing my buddy off, there was nothing to make me want to go back. The least you can do is give people free water if you're going to charge $10 at the door and $8 for well drinks. Skip this place, there's much better to be found.
by Nathanial Garity on Omg, I thought I was the only one who thought this club was ghetto! It's filthy and grimey. The ventilation was so BAD! Every time I go to this, I can't breathe.... and even worst, I start sweating my ass off even before I start dancing. The music is whack too. Plays music noone cant really dance too. The drinks are expensive... it aint no 5 star club nor is it vegas. Sorry. I wont pay dub to get it. NEVER.
by Mel Ryll on I am only reviewing the restaurant here - not the club. I ate last night at Cuba Libre for the first time. Let's just say that it was not a great experience. Because the restaurant is also a nightclub, it seems that they may be concentrating more on the club aspect. The kitchen was extremely slow, even for appetizers like a salad or soup. My partner ordered the Black Bean soup. He told me that it was very boring and nothing special. I ordered a salad that was described as a tomato, mozzarella salad on bread. What it really was was a green salad with a few tomatoes on top and some mozzarella on top. That was not what I wanted (or ordered, for that matter). We had a waiter that would flit about the place and do 360 panoramic looks around, but still never manage to actually look at us for drink refills, or anything else. Then there was the entrees. I ordered Rosemary Chicken. It was so dried out that I could not even eat it. My partner ordered pork tenderloin that came so drenched in a sweet sauce that it was barely edible. the one bright spot was the desert. We ordered a Tres Leches cake (which is one of my favorite deserts ever) and it was great. Needless to say, I will not be running back to this restaurant anytime soon.
