ZATARANS! Okay, I'm sorry that the first thing that comes to my mind in association with Piano Bar are the commercials for a cajun-flavored noodle/rice grocery product; but it seems appropriate. Most Hollywood bars have themes, especially in this neighborhood; but Piano Bar's jazz/blues/New Orleans theme shines through the post-Katrina muck. This is no speakeasy but has some of the concept underway. Jazz music, dark red interior, and a well-stocked bar. And although the crowd is large and expected to be trendy and touristy; it is actually not that annoying. Granted, I was here for a friend's birthday party with about 100+ of taking over the place, so we must have been intimating; but it was still well-received by others. The outdoor patio is a bit of a squeeze.. you literally feel smashed in between two buildings and almost expect alley bums and dumpsters. Noise level is a bit high and you have to awkwardly walk right in front of the stage to get to the patio and you feel the death stares on your back. But whatever, I've already made a voodoo doll of all those folks! So finish your Gumbo dinner and head to Piano Bar. A New Orleans-style gem within Hollywood.

I came here for brunch several months ago and the idea that I was eating on an old boat made the brunch soo much better. Was as a little weird the boat was lightly tipped to the side (don't worry nothing will fall over). For breakfast I had the crab meat Benedict and it was very tasty. The crab meat tasted very fresh, not out of a can. After dinner a buffet style desert was served and I believe all of the deserts was baked on the premises. They also had a chocolate fondue which added some good flavor to the fresh fruit to choose from. One thing I would have to say is its a bit pricey for brunch as well as the parking. Now you don't have to park here but the closest spot to park will be a quarter of a mile across a busy highway.

Its an alright place.. Went here to see a local jazz group perform. They are the only reason for the second star. The decor is that of a clean, cloth napkin type restaurant. They have about 10 tables with tablecloths and boozhie folded napkins, that seat four, and then booths around the other two walls. A small stage is up front for performances, and the bar is in the rear. The stingy bartender I had served me my Bombay and Tonic, and didn't even bother to fill the glass with Tonic (let alone Bombay!) before charging me $9. The crowd is an older, Caucasian, and somewhat gay crowd. Watch out for the assorted sex paraphernalia for sale in the back including the thankfully-up-till-now-never-heard-of-by-me "Boy Butter". Gross.
