by Jenifer D. on Yes, it's busy. Yea, it's in downtown. But the venue is pretty awesome, and if you haven't been there you should definitely give it a chance. I've only been there twice (once at night, and once for happy hour). The bartenders have always been awesome and friendly. Drinks are unique and strong. Crowd is late 20's, early 30's maybe. For happy hour they give you a drink coupon for the drink of the day for $1. The one I had was a mix of ginger beer, bourbon, other stuff. Sorry that wasn't that descriptive. Not a huge fan of bourbon, but it was a well-made drink. The absinthe fairy is also a cool touch, but note that she only works Thursday-Sunday. What a slacker. I think they have burlesque dancers on Thursday. Come before 10 if you want to avoid the crowd.
by Evan H. on Carman's is the best breakfast/brunch place in Philly. I don't care what anybody says. She (and the staff, when they're working) is fun to talk to and attentive, and the menu is always innovative. Where else does the menu change every day, the staff address you by first name, and the food is always prepared by the proprietor? Moreover, Carman is an exceptional cook with a fun, kitschy "luncheonette" space in which to have breakfast or brunch. I can't recommend this place highly enough--although I hope you don't come here the same day as we do, since Carman's is so small.
