by Melanie J. on Place was dead (well it was a Thursday night), but my dish was too die for.....have a craving for what I ordered now..... I had the shredded chicken breast- it was marinated in oh-so-delish mojo. This stuff is so awesome I went to the store to buy some.....gonna try to make this at home! Can't leave without having a mojito with the meal. Even though it was dead, I could see the potential in this place being totally hopping on the right night. Would loved to have danced some salsa while I was here.....but oh well, next time.
by Foster Contento on Up until this point in my life, my bull experience has been limited to dogs, markets, Durham and shit. (I actually have an inordinate amount of experience with the latter.) With the help of Viva El Toro, I plan to extend that expertise into bull riding as well. Newly opened, this beautiful, high-ceilinged bar on Berry is, I believe, the only establishment with a mechanical bull in Brooklyn. And if you enjoy watching strangers fall down and/or witnessing your idiot friends look like even bigger idiots as much as I do, then you should be extremely excited about this development. According to the friendly bartender Brandon, they don't get the bull going until around 8 pm; and since I wandered in last night for happy hour,* I haven't had a chance to actually ride yet. But I watched them blow up the inflatable cushion you land on when the bull tosses you off...and that's almost the same thing. I had other dinner plans yesterday, but I can report that the mostly Mexican menu looks great, the beer is cold and delicious, the staff is welcoming...and all of this is extraneous because I'd be coming back for the bull anyway. __________ *Solid, with $4 brews (Kelso, Blue Moon, and I think I saw Stella and more on tap, along with a good bottle selection) and $5 margaritas on special.
by Stan Denise on I finally got a chance to try this place while Christmas shopping (for myself...it always seems to work that way!) I was dining solo, so I sat at the bar for a beer while I decided on the menu. I wanted to try the pizza, but it was just too big for a single person, so I went with the Ravioli marinara dish. It was good, but nothing special. It didn't compare to store-bought Toludo's Ravioli, which are the best I've ever had...ever! The service seemed fine, nothing more, nothing less - it was just a bartender. But the atmosphere seemed cool - I could have very easily sat there for another 3 or 4 beers if I didn't have to get back to "Christmas shopping". All-in-all, I'd definitely go back to this place, but not after trying a few other places first. Honestly, I cannot see how this pizza can be better than Soho's (2nd & Market).....because that's just the best there is!
