by Mike P. on I'm going to start by saying the food was amazing. But just on that alone I wouldn't go back unless it is for lunch. We went there for dinner on a Saturday night, and the music was deafening, even our server could barely hear us. We had to shout across the table and it really ruined the evening. It seemed more like a place you would go after or before a club, not a place to enjoy great food (even though the food was very good). The Decor is pretty impressive with the giant budda against the far wall and a koi pond. It was a shame it was ruined by other patrons, mostly drunk, taking pictures around it and trying to play with the fish. My wasabi crusted filet was perfect, the tempura was light and flavorful. My wife had sushi and was amazed at the quality. It is a shame that the atmosphere didn't match the decor or the food, otherwise I would have gone back.
by K P. on Still one of the top spots in NYC for poetry. Some of my favorite poems come from various poets that have performed and later published their poetry (such as Pedro Pietri, co-founder of the Cafe) Take time to check this classic place out and vibe out. . .
by Cornell Shibata on Yet another one of David Judaken's (owner of Mood and Garden of Eden) swanky Hollywood nightclubs is as elegantly appointed as its velvet rope is tough. When it's not hosting X-games parties with Travis Barker, Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan or turning you away at the door yes even gorgeous women get turned away if they don't know you, Opera is serving up signature drinks like The Fat Lady Sings and The Phantom to a celeb-heavy crowd for a mere $12 to $14 per drink. Lucky for me that I don't drink or i would be broke!! Opera is actually one half of two side-by-side nightspots (the rock n' roll side is club Crimson), though the two areas can be combined into one giant space for private parties for 700 of your closest friends. Since I don't have 700 friends I probably wouldn't be renting Opera out, but it's a nice place to mingle and people watch. WARNING don't go here unless you're sure you're getting in... the door guys do not care who you know or how hot you think you are it's a no win situation. Why? Because they have celebs out the ass trying to get into this spot. My suggestion is to wait a couple of weeks til all the hoopla dies down and they'll be begging for you to come in trust me. All in all it's a nice spot and it's withing walking distance of some other nightspots in the area. Only thing parking sucks unless you valet for $15...FUCK THAT! I'll park on Argyle before I do that and the other thing is drinks are way to pricey eventhough I don't drink I still like to get people drunk haha. Check it out you might like it.
