by Nate A. on My wife picked Morimoto for her birthday dinner on January 6 and we went for the 7-course Omakase. 3 Courses in I was thinking 5, but the cooked entrees, while still great, didn't live up to the promise of the raw stuff that kicked off the meal. Service and ambiance are givens. When I come back, I'll stick to 'Cold Dish' appetizers and sushi, keeping it firmly in Morimoto's wheelhouse. Pros -Amazing, inventive raw appetizers or 'Cold Dishes.' The Yellowtail Tartare in particular blew our minds. The Kumamoto oysters were fresh and delicious accompanied by a range of creative mignonettes. -Ambiance - with flowing wood ceilings and light-up seating structures that change color, the dining room is impressive. -Service - confident, friendly, savvy and pragmatic. We told our server we weren't eating toro (or bluefin tuna, because they're endangered) which features prominently on the omakase menu. As a value swap, he negotiated a trade in for several grams of seasonal white truffles that completely transformed the white fish carpaccio. Cons -Hot Dishes - both the spiced lobster and the kobe beef were just alright. Probably in other circumstances they'd have been great, but we didn't feel they lived up to the promise of the early dishes in the omakase course. -Price - one of the most expensive restaurants I've been to. But you know that going in. Still, it's shocking how little sake $45 buys you when it's gone in two gulps.
by michelle i. on i used to practically live at dance clubs, but its really not my thing anymore. occasionally i like to go and get my groove on-- and suede is a decent club. not the best i've ever been to, but a lot better than most right now in this city. crowd could definitely be improved upon though.
