by wind t. on How do you spell out toots its own horn a little too hard? VMC. That's Velvet Margarita Cantina. The overall atmosphere of the place is ok...like a typical kitschy Mexican restaurant. Velvet walls, stuff everywhere and an interesting bathroom. Everything else is 1.5 stars. Drinks - watery and overly sweetened with the agave. Food - BLAH BLAH boring. Went here with the bf because of a Groupon. I was beyond underwhelmed. Service was ok, hence the 2 stars. Would not go back.
by M P. on Not from Atlanta, but jumped at the chance to try Flip on a recent visit there. Not knowing the town, its in an odd location (you'd never find it if you hadn't looked it up). So, the food. I try my best to avoid pretentious words, but hell, 'inspired" is about right here. And damn good to boot. Had the Butcher Cut burger, which a deep, rich combo of beef, dark sauce and a great bun (maybe a little too much sauce). Sides were fried okra w/ a spicy dipping sauce (decent) and pickled veggies (awesome, and yes an 'inspired' and refreshing side for a burger). Mood was good, mixed (was there on a Monday). Also, nice selection of booze, good wines by the glass.
by Louetta Challa on I went on a Friday and the crowd was pretty good. The fact that every group is mandated to bring in at least equal numbers of ladies is nice if you're a guy. However, despite that rule, there's still a fair number of dudes walking around the dance floor holding their beers and looking sketchy. The music between 10 and 12 was pretty bad (reminiscent of a high school dance where they try and play a mix of 80's, electronic music, hard rock and hip hop so everyone gets a couple songs they like, but no one is ever really happy). At 12, there seemed to be a DJ change and things got better (daresay even hyphy). Also note: being that you Slide into a basement, there's not a whole lot of ventilation. Expect for it to get hot.
