the clay pot with quail egg was excellent. it came bubbling to the table. the appetizer in the rice cake was great too. the design was excellent and made me happy to see such investment in washington avenue area. Being a non native who supports many restaurants on that street, i would be happy to take a business client there. the server was helpful in suggesting dishes.

View -- 5 stars. Burgers -- 5 stars DJ -- upset at the lack of a negative-stars option, and easily pulls the place down to a three-star review. trance at 9pm on a thursday is NEVER welcome. totally decent drinks, okay if fratty crowd, reasonable prices. wandering around the tugboat beside the dock is really good fun.

this is my favorite venue! the decor is super cool, basically the same as it was when the club opened in 1931 - lots of red velvet curtains, deco sculptures and big candelabras. the staff is always friendly and helpful! not sure if you noticed but most venues hire angry people that get off on bein superior so this is a wonderful alternative the stage is above the crowd, i don't mean floating but i mean it is raised so you can see it from just about anywhere even if "ugly betty" is jumping and crashing into you. i saw stereo total there last night which may make any venue seem great but this was perfect. the place is small enough to feel intimate so you get that ridiculous sense of having some direct connection to the musicians but it is big enough to feel like a real concert complete with stage diving and crowds dancing on the stage!
