So I went here with a bunch of friends on a Friday and I don't think I will be returning. Although the wait was short (only ten minutes), the cover was ridiculously cheap and not to mention ALL drinks were $6 bucks that night... the music selection was wack. The entire night consisted of disco music and one dupstep song. I mean come on! Disco music? Really? There is nothing wrong with it but how do you expect me to dance to that all frickin night? I was pretty baffled. Even with a number of strong ass drinks I couldn't come to terms with the music. I sat down the majority of the night chatting it up with a friend. I had high hopes for this place. I love the layout and the interior. It definitely has an urban feel to it. The bathrooms aren't "gorgeous" as some people described. They are just like any other bathroom in a club... Has the stench of sweat and clogged toilets. But aside from that, the crowd. Aside from the numerous amount of hipsters I saw, i would say that Mighty's has a pretty diverse crowd. Everyone seemed chill and friendly. Nobody got too rowdy or violent. Maybe I didn't go on a good night but as of right now, I will hold off on coming here. Its a cool venue but I definitely want to hear a better music selection... that could make me reconsider.

I could barely contain my excitement. Reservations secured for XIV. I mean, surely you've read all the hoopla. SBE's swanky new destination featuring the culinary creations of celeb chef Michael Mina. Beautiful, lush décor. Small but impeccable platings that allow you to create your own tasting experience. The entrance is so sleek that I almost walked right past it. Upon entering, the efficient staff greets you with a smile. And I don't just mean the host. We're talking every staff member that comes within your radius. Very impressive. Less impressive was our host's ability to seat us indoors. After all, wasn't I there to partake in the spectacular surroundings as I imbibed my delectable meal? We were seated outdoors near a heat lamp with the assurance that we would not be missing out on anything. We politely requested a move inside, but were just as politely refused. Grumpiness set in as I realized that through the lame Home Depot trellis I got a clear view of El Pollo Loco and McDonald's. And that's in addition to my view of the intersection of Sunset and Crescent Heights. Oh, don't think it was just a view of that intersection either. We could hear every bit of traffic that passed by during our three-hour meal. However, our host earned huge brownie points when he presented a pashmina wrap on loan to keep the chills away. From that moment, I promised myself that I would give them a clean slate. The menu is quite outstanding. And there are two. Yes, two. The second one is a vegetarian menu that closely mirrors the preparations of the first. Since all selections must be served for the entire table, it's nice to see that they are so accommodating to dietary restrictions. Wait, does that say 14 courses for $95? What a deal. We decide to put together our own tasting and selected 9 courses. The perfect amount of nutrition for these two ladies. Wrapped in pashmina under the flames of the heat lamp, we begin our journey... Indian naan bread with a yogurt sauce was a complimentary starter. The oven-warm naan was salted well and perfectly complemented by the thick and creamy tang of the yogurt sauce. Chilled Maine Lobster with potatoes, celery, chestnuts and truffle had a clean taste to the palate. Very simple, yet the bit of truffle sauce added an earthy richness to the chunks of lobster. Thai coconut soup was served piping hot and had a warming spiciness to boot. Absolutely delicious if you are a coconut milk fiend like myself. Sake and maple-cured Kanpachi with apple, cippolini onions and shiso was probably my least favorite dish of the night. Yes, it was tasty and had a surprising combination of flavors. Jidori chicken with truffled mac and cheese and spinach was much more flavorful than it sounds. The chicken and spinach were perfectly prepared. The truffled mac and cheese, however, were out-of-this-world. Crispy pork belly with pea shoots, orange, and salted cashew. What's not to like about pork belly? Especially when its outer crust is cooked to a crisp perfection. Surprise of the night was the pea shoots. Delicious! California lamb with salsify, Medjool dates, thyme and walnuts was a winner. The thyme component was actually a bright green sauce on the plate. The sweet stickiness of the dates melded with the lamb. Downright luscious. Short rib with Worcestershire sauce and parsnip puree was decadent. The rib meat just melted the moment the fork touched it. The sauce was just unbelievably rich and tasty. This sauce needs to be renamed as "Worcestershire sauce" does not begin to describe it adequately. White chocolate cube with cassis cream had the most incredible presentation. A pure white chocolate cube holds court on a pure white plate drizzled with dark chocolate. Pierce your fork into the whiteness and you are met with the deepest berry. Intense raspberry flavor in the layers of cake, cream and miniature raspberry gelee cubes. On our exit, we noticed the open, massive stainless steel kitchen with its flurry of activity. Those guys in white coats and hats...admirable talent. Note: Since my visit, they have revamped the outdoor seating area into a patio with a more affordable bar/lounge menu. I think they're on the right track with this idea.

De Acuerdo... Some of the people here are a TAD sketchy, and sometimes the bouncers are A BIT unpleasant. (Please notice I'm being very generous here.) But dag nabbit -- the music here on Sunday nights has never ever disappointed! ! Super Soul Sundayz has always been something I look forward to when visiting from Orange County. I come here strictly for the house music and to dance. If that's what you have in mind, then this is where you need to Endup on Sunday nites. And if you were there just this past Sunday before Labor Day, and you heard David Harness play, "Follow Me," then you probably went just as crazy as I did on the dance floor! Enough said.
