i've only been to triple crown to see djs. i like this space. the bar around the side makes for a quieter environment when ordering drinks or talking with friends. the dj booth and nook that it is located in is great for dancing, though not with too many people. the crowd was very mixed, from prep to punk and left and right.

So, the ridiculously long line out front sucked pretty bad, but it moved quickly and I was on the guest list so I got in free. That always makes me happy. The inside was pretty awesome. I love to dance and there were four different rooms, all pretty much playing the same type of music, but they were different sizes, so depending on how much room you like to dance, there was a room for you. There was a bar in every room so you never had to wait to long for a drink and they were made well. Also there was plenty of seating throughout the club to take a break from the dancing. Based on just this I would give the club five stars. Minus one star for three asian guys shouting 'hey white girl' at me. Minus one star for a group of asian guys shouting 'what are you doing here?' at me. Minus one star for a guy saying really loudly to his friend as he walked by, 'look, there's a white girl'. You know it's bad when one of five people of your same ethnicity in the entire club comes up to you and comments on how you both are sticking out like sore thumbs. I don't mind being a minority in a club, i just feel uncomfortable when it's pointed out to me every other second. Would I go back? Perhaps with a paper bag over my head.

Old Hollywood Glam meets the LA rave electronic dance scene. I love the Avalon's ambiance, however the DJ acts this Hollywood dance club has drawn in the past 6 months has whittled down significantly. The last big act I saw at Avalon was Ferry Corsten. The sound system had one to two glitches throughout the night, paled in comparison to the wall of light quasi-pyro-technicolor dream coat. That was amazing. I'm sure the kids in the fake Armani sunglasses, an generous dollop of hair product and glow sticks enjoyed it more than I did though. If you are into the clubbing scene and love trance, you need to visit this joint. My favorite room lately has been the Spanish-style open aired tiled terrace (which is now the house room) located on the upper level.
